Met 18 jaar ervaring in de clubs, 13 jaar ervaring op het podium met Brainpower, een eigen radio show op 538 Juize en meer dan 40 mixtapes op zijn naam is DJ TLM één van de bekendste Hip Hop DJ’s van Nederland. Hij won in zijn carrière meerdere prijzen (o.a. ‘Beste DJ’ bij de Grote Prijs van Nederland) en deelde het podium met turntable helden als DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Scratch, DJ Premier en DJ Cash Money. Hij leverde ook scratches voor muziek  van Brainpower, The Proov, Dicecream, The Partysquad, Intwine, Deams, Hans & Candy Dulfer en vele anderen.

Op Zaterdag 10 December geeft DJ TLM i.s.m. House Of Hip Hop een masterclass in 5 Elementz in Amsterdam. De masterclass bestaat uit een aantal onderdelen en duurt 3 tot 4 uur. Uiteraard wordt de geschiedenis van het DJ-en en turntablism behandeld en vertelt TLM zijn eigen verhaal, maar ook de basis begrippen van het mixen komen ook aan bod.

Verder gaat deze masterclass over de evolutie van het DJ-en. Er is namelijk een heleboel veranderd sinds de introductie van de nieuwe technologieën zoals cd spelers, tijdcode systemen en midi controllers.

De deelnemers/bezoekers krijgen niet alleen de gelegenheid om tijdens de masterclass vragen te stellen, maar ze krijgen ook de kans om de apparatuur van dichtbij te bekijken en samen met TLM te mixen en scratchen.

On November 13th DJ TLM will showcase his trick mixing skills at the second Dutch DJ Summit. During this showcase you will also get the chance to aks him questions about club DJ’ing/trick mixing.

At the DJ Summit you can also watch a couple of interesting showcases by DJ DNS (beat juggling), DJ Optimus (scratching), DJ Chainsaw (digital DJ’ing with the NS7) and DJ Irie (video DJ’ing with serato).

Once again, the Superheroes TLM and Turne are saving the day at Bitterzoet (Amsterdam), like they do every second Friday of the month. Armed with 2 DJ sets and an eagle eye few of their sets projected on the big screen you are in for a treat!

Mark your calendar! The Main Ingredient is back! You can now join TLM every third Thursday of the month at The House of Rising, where he will do a 5 hour solo set filled with Hip Hop, R&B, Soul and Funk.

At The House of Rising (Regulierdwarsstraat 41, close to Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam) you can either chill upstairs in the lounge area and enjoy the music with some drinks and tapas or you can get your groove on and party downstairs at the bar with TLM.

The Main Ingredient starts at 20:00 and ends at 01:00. This makes it the perfect event for people who have to work the next day! :)

In this video we take a look at cue points. What is a cue point? What’s the advantage of using cue points when you’re mixing? How do you make a cue point?

Cue points are shortcuts that allow you to go straight to a certain part of the song without having to look for it. A lot of songs start with an intro before the actual ‘beat’ begins. If you place a cue point on that first beat (drum), you can always go straight to that first beat by clicking on that cue point.

Cue points aren’t pre-selected in your songs so you have to ‘make’ them yourself by finding the parts of the song you want to have quick acces to, and marking them with a cue point. If you do this in the software (in this case i use Serato Scratch Live) than you can use your mouse and click on the + to add the selected cue point or you can use a keyboard shortcut. Please consult your manual to see which button you have to click in your software.
